Five dead in Louisville mass shooting, say police, as shooter 'neutralised'

A mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, has left five people dead, police have confirmed. There are a further six casualties in hospitals, one of them a police officer, it has been reported.

The incident was reported at 2.27pm UK time, near the Old National Bank building. Louisville Metro Police tweeted: "We are confirming reports of an active aggressor in the 300 block of East Main. Please stay out of the area. There are multiple casualties."

Less than an hour later, they added at 3.16pm: "There is no longer an active aggressor threat. The suspected shooter has been neutralized." The BBC has reported that five people are dead.

At 2.33pm, FBI Louisville tweeted: "FBI Louisville special agents have responded to the scene of this morning's shooting in downtown Louisville and are assisting our law enforcement partners."

On Twitter, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said: "LMPD has confirmed a shooting situation in downtown Louisville with multiple casualties. I am headed there now. Please pray for all of the families impacted and for the city of Louisville."
