Gardaí investigating a serious assault incident in Offaly have arrested and charged five people, it has been confirmed.
It's understood the charges relate to an assault in the Arden View estate in Tullamore last Wednesday, July 6, which saw a man attacked with a pitchfork and baseball bats.
Gardaí confirmed that three aged in their 20s and late teens and two women in their 20s and 40s have been charged and are due to appear before Portlaoise District Court on Tuesday afternoon in relation to an assault incident in Arden View last week.

Frightening images taken on what appears to be a mobile phone circulated on social media following the incident.
The footage shows a man in a grey T-shirt walking along a footpath carrying a stick with others running slowly behind him. A number of men jump out from a moving silver car carrying weapons and run after the man.
He runs across the road in the other direction but is soon caught by three men all carrying baseball bats. They beat the man to the ground and continue to hit him, before they are joined by a fourth man and two women.
The man in the grey T-shirt repeatedly stamps on the victim who is now lying on the ground and not fighting back.
Gardai said: “A male, 40, was injured in the incident and brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of his injuries.
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
