Fishponds man jailed after passer-by spotted drug deal and took down car number plate

A drug dealer was caught when a member of the public spotted him dealing in the street in his own car - and traced it to find £82,000 worth of class A drugs at his home.

Police acted on a tip off from a member of the public who thought they had seen a drug deal happening in east Bristol, and took down the number plate of the car involved.

That led police to Claverham Road in Fishponds, where they found Mazin Mohammed with what police described as ‘significant quantities’ of Class A drugs.

Mohammed, 28, was arrested in December and today, Friday, March 11, pleaded guilty to offences including possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.

He was jailed for ten years - but that was reduced to seven years and six months because of his guilty plea.

The police officer who tracked Mohammed down said he had no choice but to plead guilty because the evidence against him was ‘overwhelming’.

“Mohammed was caught with a large quantity of class A drugs and in the face of overwhelming evidence had little option but to plead guilty to these offences,” said PC Louise Jones.

“He sought to profit from the misery that drugs cause people and communities and we welcome the custodial sentence he has today received.

“This arrest was the direct result of a member of the public calling to report witnessing a suspected drug deal. That call played a vital role and we’d like to publicly thank them for reporting this to us. It enabled us to react quickly, seize drugs and ultimately helped to secure this conviction.

“We hope this result provides people with the confidence to continue reporting these crimes to help us rid Bristol's streets of drug dealers,” she added.
