King Charles III was formally proclaimed monarch during an Accession Council ceremony at St James’s Palace on Saturday.
The first reading of the local Proclamation of the new Monarch took place at an event in Motherwell the following day.
It was read by Sheriff Principal of South Strathclyde and Dumfries and Galloway Aisha Anwar, to the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Susan Lady Haughey CBE, and follows regional public proclamations in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.
Also present at Motherwell Concert Hall were MPs, MSPs, elected members from both North and South Lanarkshire Councils, and representatives from the military and places of worship.
The ceremony marks the formal proclamation to the people of Lanarkshire of the beginning of the new King’s reign.
The brief ceremony included a minute’s silence in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band Pipe Major, Ross Cowan, piped a lament.
He later played Diu Regnare, a tune composed by Stuart Liddell as a tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Warmest wishes for a successful reign were offered to His Majesty from The Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.
