MORITZ JENZ believes that Celtic can qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and can even finish above Real Madrid to top Group F after landing the tournament holders and 14-time winners in yesterday’s draw in Istanbul.
Celtic will also take on German side RB Leipzig and Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, who will play their home matches in Warsaw, and Jenz says that Ange Postecoglou’s men have nothing to be afraid of as Celtic look to progress beyond the group stages for the first time in since season 2012/13.
“There’s no sense of fear,” Jenz said. “There’s a sense of excitement.
“I’m looking forward to an amazing night here at Celtic Park [against Real Madrid] and, obviously, to compete against the best team in Europe or the world. So, it’s a good way of showing what we can do and to compete against them.
“I think it’s the draw we’d all been hoping for. It’s the biggest draw you can get. It’s amazing to play against the reigning champions of the Champions League.
“So we’re looking forward to playing against them and it will be a fantastic evening here at Celtic Park.”
“I think any group, you don’t go there not as tourists; you go there to compete. That’s because it is the Champions League, you want to perform, you want to get out of the group and be at your best.
“But it will be a difficult challenge, of course. There are some very good teams in there and we will have to play our way, be at our best and give it a try.
“I think the group gives us a fair chance of doing something. Of course you have Real Madrid, but then you have two other teams where we can go head to head and be close. So, it will be very interesting.
“Second place, first place...we just have to get past the group. That’s the target.”
