First picture of pedestrian who died in three-vehicle collision in East Kilbride

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a man who died after a collision with three cars in East Kilbride. John Paul McGinty, 35, died on the A726 at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 7.

Emergency services raced to the busy road but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene. Tributes poured in for the popular man - also known as Jai - who was described as "one in a million" by loved ones.

The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the road, east of the roundabout junction with Murrayhill and Cornwall Street. Police say enquiries into the crash are "ongoing".

Paying tribute, one commented: "I’m really going to miss you but I am so happy we had that weekend together recently. We laughed and sang our hearts out. You are one in a million."

Another said: "Cannot believe he is gone. It was only the other week I said I better go visit him. Will miss our shenanigans together. I am just broken." One added: "I just can't believe it, he popped into my flat all the time. RIP, Jai."

His heartbroken mum, Denise Dell, changed her Facebook profile picture to one of her and Jai together.

A friend wrote: "Sorry to hear this, Denise. It is so sad and my thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family." Another said: "Oh, how I feel for you, Denise. I just can’t imagine how you are coping at this sad time."

Police closed the road for six hours after the fatal collision, which involved a black Citroen Berlingo van, a silver Seat Leon car and a white Vauxhall Crossland car. No one from any of the vehicles was injured.

Detectives are asking anyone with dashcam footage who may have been in the area to come forward. A spokesperson for the force said: "Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area. You can call the police on 101, quoting reference 2829 of 7 December."
