A 'beautiful' mum who was killed in a house fire has been named locally as her devastated family and friends pay tribute.

Emergency services were called to a home on Quernmore Road, Kirkby, after an electrical fire broke out at around 6am on Thursday, January 26. Firefighters went into the home and rescued two people from the blaze, both in their 50s.

She was attended to by North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed the woman died of her injuries a short time later.

The woman who died has been named locally as Lynne Gardiner. Dozens of people have already paid tribute to the mum, who has been described as "always happy".

Northwood Together, where Lynne was a long term board member, paid tribute to her saying they were "heartbroken".

The tribute shared on the community project's Facebook page said: "We are heartbroken to share with you the sad news of the passing of our long term board member and friend, Lynne Gardiner. Lynne did so much within our community, always happy and willing to give up her time and energy to help others out.

"She was committed in her support of Northwood Together, and was always ready to get stuck in, with a laugh and a smile to jolly us all along. She will be so sadly missed by us all. RIP Lynne."
