First pic of pals killed in horror Highlands crash after car left road ‘some time before being found’

Tributes have been paid to two young men who sadly died after their car crashed off a Highlands road ‘some time before being found’. Emergency services were called to the scene on the A836 at Torroble, near Lairg, at around 3.20pm on Sunday, October 16.

David Hamilton, 25, and Finley Hope, 24, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene after the white Mazda RX8 left the rural roadway. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the tragic incident, with anyone who used the road from the early hours of Sunday morning being urged to come forward.

Devastated pals have paid tribute to the popular pair on social media, who were from the Golspie and Lairg areas. One wrote: “Rest easy David and Finley. Thinking of your families.”

Another said: “Absolutely distraught to hear that you are no longer with us. Broken is an understatement. Even to call you a f**** just one more time would mean so much right now. You will be missed so much by so many. Fly high buddy. Until we meet again David Hamilton.”

A third posted: “An amazing lad taken far too soon. Thank you for being you. Keep partying up there. Until we meet again Finley.” A relative added: “Gutted to be posting this but rest in peace Finley Hope. Love and miss you cuz. Won’t forget the laughs we had.”

And another heartbroken pal shared: “Rest in peace boys David Hamilton Finley Hope. I just remember the old days in Brora. Gone too soon. Thinking of friends and both families.”

A section of the A836 was closed for around 10 hours to allow for a full accident investigation to take place.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, of Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of this crash are at an early stage and our thoughts remain with the families of these two young men.

"I would ask anyone who was travelling on the road from the early hours of Sunday morning until the car was reported to police to contact officers. If there are any motorists with dashcam footage that were in the area around the time of the incident, please get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information can contact police via 101, quoting incident number 2086 of 16 October.
