First Minister visits Lanarkshire food bank whilst on campaign trail

A North Lanarkshire food bank was paid a visit from a special guest last week.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon popped into Paul's Parcels in Shotts while in the village on the campaign trail for the upcoming council elections.

Sturgeon met with staff at the facility whose focus is helping those who are living with food insecurity/poverty.

Paul's Parcel's chairwoman, Tracey Duffy, said the visit allowed them to voice their opinions and concerns about food poverty.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "We spoke about the cost of living crisis that is increasing referrals for our service and the effect of food poverty on families' lives.

"We also spoke of the need for funding for those working in food poverty to be opened up to meet demand.

On the visit, Nicola Sturgeon spoke with the team about food poverty (Pauls Parcels)

"For us, it’s a boost to highlight what we (and other organisations like us) do in our community and how, now more than ever, we need support.

"Some people may have seen this as a photo opportunity but for us it was really good to speak with someone about what we do and what we need."
