First look inside Newcastle's huge new Mango store as it opens in Eldon Square

Popular Spanish fashion brand Mango has opened its first Newcastle store inside Eldon Square.

The high street chain has taken over the shopping centre's former Monsoon unit to create a huge new store covering 400 square metres. It comes as Mango expands its presence in the city, where the company already has a concession in the Fenwick department store.

The new store in Eldon Square has created 15 jobs in the city and sells Mango's collection of womenswear which is strongly influenced by the Mediterranean.

Daniel López, Mango’s global expansion director, said: "The opening of our first store in Newcastle is a step further in our strategic goals for international expansion. It strengthens our presence in the United Kingdom which is a strategic market for Mango and one of the most important for the fashion world."

Shoppers will also be able to donate unwanted clothing and footwear in a container inside the branch as part of Mango's commitment to sustainability.

Welcoming the announcement of the new Mango store, an Eldon Square spokeswoman told ChronicleLive in July: "We are delighted to confirm that one of Europe’s major fashion brands, Mango, will be joining our retail line up later this year. Mango is yet another global brand making the decision to open their store in our centre following the likes of H&M late last year.

"The fashion clothing brand, founded in the Spanish city of Barcelona, will be the perfect addition to our growing selection of fashion retailers and we are excited to continue enhancing the overall experience for our visitors."
