We headed along to Lucky Yu on Broughton Street, the capital's newest Japanese restaurant, which boasts a stunning interior and late opening hours to get a sneak peek before it opened.
The eatery and bar is described by its designer as "clean and sharp" but also "weathered and sexy" with "an intimate, seductive vibe" and she's not wrong - when the lights are low it's the perfect spot for a hot date or bougie night with the girls.

The minimalist interior with zany pink tones to contrast the neutral walls creates a stunning space on one of Edinburgh's best streets for food and drink hot spots.
With locals flooding to the newly opened Edinburgh Street Food Festival just up the road at the Omni Centre, Lucky Yu and other locations on Broughton Street are great to avoid the crowds.
Lucky Yu will be open Thursday 5 – 11pm and 12 - 11pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The Japanese diner will be offering Karaage Fried Chicken, Gyoza, Yakitori, Bao Buns and more tasty delights.
There is also a unique cocktail menu delivering perfect serves such as a Kanpai with East London vodka, Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth, Miso and MSG Cordial plus the Hidden QI made with Plum Sake, Aluna Peach, Pomelo, Citric Syrup, and Soda.
Owner, John Howard who is also the mastermind behind Bodega Taqueria in Leith and Tollcross said: “When I first looked at the site I knew it was perfect for Lucky Yu.
"The location, size and layout offered up so much potential. We’ve installed a robata grill to expand the menu but keep the dumplings, homemade bao and yakitori that people know.
"We’ve also spent as much time on our drinks menu with cocktails and wines that pair with the food and beer from Newbarns. We’re going to be opening later, serving food & drinks till 12 at weekends which is something we think is missing from the city.”
The new restaurant at 53-55 Broughton Street will serve some of the old favourites with the addition of new creations from head chef Duncan Adamson who previously worked at the Gardener’s Cottage.
The restaurant is co-owned and was designed by Meredith Wilkie who added: “I’ve taken as my design inspiration wabi-sabi meets neon Tokyo; like if ancient Japanese artistry and urban neon glamour had a love child.
“The space is designed to be immersive, to hopefully transport the customer to another place - making for a real experience, not just a delicious meal - without being a theme restaurant."

She continued: "The style is clean and sharp, but also weathered and sexy - when the lights are low and the pink neon comes into its own, the place has an intimate, seductive vibe.
“With a total of 80 covers, we have a mixture of banquette and traditional seating available and a low dining counter at the bar. Two to three areas will be bookable for groups with spaces suitable for small groups of six or larger groups of up to 30.”
