First look at Jurassic Lanark as dinosaurs arrive in town

A number of dinosaurs have began descending in Lanark and New Lanark this week as an exciting trail gets ready to begin tomorrow, June 25.

Families will be tasked with hunting down 20 of the ancient creatures in the event that runs until August 29.

And they've already started taking their positions in some of the area's main streets.

So far, some locals may have noticed a Brontosaurus settling in nicely on some bark next to a road in Lanark.

Meanwhile, a Tyrannosaurus Rex has chosen a similar position and is looking fierce!

The event, named Jurassic Lanark, gives locals the chance to walk in the footsteps of some of the beasts which also include the Dromaeosaurus, Allosaurus and Velociraptor.

Hunters should also look out for a Pteranodon swooping overhead, whilst meeting some of the more friendly dinosaurs such as the Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Brontosaurus and Stegosaurus.

Some of the dinosaurs stand at over six metres tall. And some will even be animated and have scary growls for visitors passing by.

Organisers can't wait to welcome families to the dinosaur invasion which is completely free, and hope the increased footfall helps local businesses.

To take part, you can collect your trail maps from Tolbooth Lanark in the town centre (open daily 10am to 5pm) and the Mill Cafe at New Lanark World Heritage Site (open Mon-Fri 11am to 4.30pm, and 11am to 5pm at weekends).

The giants of the past are waiting for families to discover them. If you find them all, you can claim your Jurassic Lanark Badge - proof that you are an intrepid dinosaur hunter!

Events organiser and Discover Lanark (BID) manager Antonia Pompa told Lanarkshire Live: “At a time that’s been really difficult, we want people to come here and have a good time.

“We hope people will come to explore Lanark town centre and New Lanark World Heritage Site while they’re completing the trail and have a good day out.”
