MAITLAND families will be given a first look at early concept designs of the redeveloped Gillieston Public School, part of the Minns government's $8.9 billion investment into education infrastructure.
The full redevelopment will include all new classrooms, a support learning hub, staff and administration facilities, a library, school hall, canteen, an Outside of School Hours (OOSH) care facility and a new bus stop and kiss and drop facilities.
Gillieston Public School principal Lauren Fernando said the community was thrilled to be getting a preview of the school's future.
"The concept design gives us a clear indication of the modern facilities that will enhance our students' learning experiences and school community," she said,
"This is a key milestone and reflects the collaborative and thoughtful planning of everyone involved. We're eager to see more updates as the project moves forward."
Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison said the community had been calling on the former government for upgrades on the school.
"It is wonderful to see the plans take shape. From here, we invite the community to join our information session and give feedback on the design before we get to work on redeveloping the school."
Gillieston Public School is also set to receive a new co-located public preschool through the Minns Labor Government's historic $769 million program to build 100 new public preschools across the state.
"Maitland locals have long been campaigning for improvements for their school, and I am pleased the Minns Labor Government is making progress on this long overdue project," Minister for Education and deputy premier Prue Car said.
The preschool will be a distinct space next door to the primary school with its own entry, and secure outdoor area with play equipment.
The school's design will evolve through consultation with the community as the project progresses. The community is invited to Gillieston Public School's library via the North view Street entrance on Monday, September 16 to find out more about the project and view concept designs.
