Disney+ has given a first look into its reboot of 90s comedy film The Full Monty.
25 years on, the streaming platform is turning the BAFTA-winning blockbuster into an eight-part series, due to premiere in the UK this June. The film followed a band of steelworkers from Sheffield who formed a male striptease act to earn some cash.
It is one of the most successful British films ever, earning more than £50 million at the box office and winning an Oscar for its music. The new show will uncover what happened to the group after they put their kit back on, while navigating the post-industrial city and their own personal hardships.

Simon Beaufoy, the original film's screenwriter has returned for the series - and fans will see the majority of the cast reunited. Robert Carlyle will reprise his role of Gaz, alongside Mark Addy as Dave, Lesley Sharp as Jean and Hugo Speer as Guy.
Also re-joining the cast are Paul Barber as Horse, Steve Huison as Lomper and Tom Wilkinson as Gerald. Wim Snape, who was 11 years old in the film version of The Full Monty, returns as Gaz’s son Nathan, now 38.
Now a police officer, he is seen donning his uniform, complete with hi-vis jacket and radio scanner in the new images. The first-look photos also introduce rising star Talitha Wing, who will play Gaz’s teenage daughter, Destiny Schofield.
Another image shows the hilarious Horse, riding his mobility scooter on the motorway. Wearing a flat cap and a trench coat, a bearded Horse looks aloof while navigating the traffic, positioned in front of a lorry.
While both the film and series are set in the South Yorkshire city of Sheffield, camera crews were spotted in Greater Manchester last summer. Cast members, including Gaz, Horse, Lomper and Dave, were photographed outside the old Specsavers unit at Crompton Place Shopping Centre in Bolton on August 2 and 3.
Filming for the series began in Sheffield back in March 2022.
On the new series, Simon Beaufoy said: “It has been one of the great joys of my writing career to reunite this eccentric, irrepressible family of Sheffield men and women and see how 25 years, 7 Prime Ministers, and 100 broken political promises have affected their lives.”
Executive producer Alice Nutter added: “Entering the Monty world, where community, friends and family step in when the state has so abysmally failed, has been a great personal reminder of what is good about the world we live in. The series has been a pleasure and a privilege to write on.”
The original 1997 film is now available to stream on Disney+. The Full Monty TV series will be released on the streaming service this June.
