Popular pop-up street food business Fowl and Fury, which serves up some of the spiciest Nashville hot chicken in Wales, is finally welcoming hungry customers asit opens the doors to its brand new permanent restaurant.
Run by husband and wife duo Jamie and Natalia Rees - read more on their story here - the new premises, located at the former site of Cafe Portugal on Wyeverne Road in Cathays, began as a pop-up restaurant in the bustling street food spot Sticky Fingers last year after the couple began their business in lockdown.
It soon became renowned for dishing up Cardiff's best and hottest chicken tenders - a challenge we previously took on - and has since gained an amazing following.
Fowl and Fury officially opens on Friday, July 15 but was offering a special deal at its new location a day earlier when it served its famous spicey Sando to customers, who lined the street from 4.20pm in eager anticipation. "All in all we did just south of 100 chicken sandwiches and about 15 cauli' Sandos," says Jamie.
Of opening Fowl and Fury's permanent home - keys for which Natalia and Jamie got in February this year - Jamie says: "We are very exited to open up in Cathays. We have been trading in the neighborhood as a pop up since we opened and it as been amazing. Having our own spot in the same area that has been so kind to us, is a fantastic feeling."
He added: "We wanted to open a permanent store because we believe it will be the best environment to serve our food in. Fun food, fun staff and fun music."
And while getting the place ready has been hard work, the customer reaction and having a permanent residence for Fowl and Fury will no doubt make it all the more worth it.
"We're cooks not builders and we've spent months in a world we know nothing about," he explains of revamping the establishment. "Although, we are super proud of what we've done. We think the 'quirks' of what we have built will add character and soul to the environment that our food is served in. It's a genuine, environment built by genuine people - and a DIY handbook from Amazon!"
Of the stunning and spicy food on offer - think their classic Sando, Tenders, Fury Fries, loaded Mac and Cheese and some glorious sides to go with that and more - Jamie explain that a meal from Fowl and Fury, though delicious and a treat, isn't just going out for food. It's also "an experience" he says.
"If you and your friends are eating it together, struggling together... it's bonding. You'll always remember that time you all almost died eating something called 'medium'." - referring to the heat level of the food served.
Fowl and Fury can be found at 99 Wyeverne Road, Cathays, CF24 4BG and will be open midday until 10pm from Wednesdays to Saturdays and on Sundays, they will be open midday to 5pm.
