First look as celebrated doughnut company opens in Cardiff city centre arcade

A much-loved colourful Cardiff doughnut shop which has been selling its goodies to the sugar-craving public from a van is opening up a three-month pop-up shop in the middle of the city centre in one of the capital's beautiful arcades.

Cardiff Dough and Co makes handcrafted two-day proved doughnuts in a creative range of ever-changing flavours and is run by husband and wife duo Ash and Rachael Parfitt. It began as a concept four years ago whilst the pair were honeymooning in Australia but only came to fruition during lockdown when Ash, a welder, was furloughed. It started as a delivery business from their home before they began trading at farmers markets and pop-ups - and were a huge success. Read more on that here.

The popular doughnut business has its own factory unit in Rumney - where customers can buy doughnuts to take away from its retail counter - has featured at many events across Wales, has its own mobile doughnut shop in the shape of a van - read about its story here - and now, they are returning to the city centre with a pop-up that will last for three months with a unit in High Street Arcade.

Unlike their previous pop-up in the same location (last year), which was limited to takeout only, its latest installment, which officially opens on Saturday, November 19, comes complete with indoor seating where you can really savour this indulgent and doughy treat.

Of this exciting news for Cardiff Dough and Co, Ash, 32, explains: "Our Christmas pop up in the city centre gives us the opportunity to trade amoungst the Christmas hustle and bustle. We have decided to do another pop up this year to see how a Doughnut shop/Coffee shop works. Last year we were limited to take away only, due to covid restrictions. It worked very well, however this year we want to create more of a vibe.

"You can now sit down to enjoy the best doughnuts, drink great coffee and have a little chill between all the Christmas craziness. We have added cookies to our menu as well as a few crazy hot drinks! Come and see for yourself."

Its flourescent light fixtures on the wall and counter keep in line with its retro, edgy, colourful and ultra cool vibe that the other two locations embody - and makes it an eye-catching sight for customers to behold.

While the store, whose premises has been empty "for years" Ashley explains, is relatively small and thin, it is cosy and what it lacks in space it makes up for in big flavours and a huge warm welcome.

Cardiff Dough and Co's latest pop-up will last for three months and can be found at 33 High Street Arcade.
