The first group of injured and sick Palestinians set to be evacuated from Gaza under the hostage agreement are due to leave hospitals in southern Gaza. Their evacuation for urgent medical treatment was one part of the overall hostage-ceasefire agreement reached last month.

According to a video from the European hospital, most of those waiting there Saturday are children. Atef Al-Hout, General Manager of the Nasser Medical Complex, mentioned that a bus carrying 16 injured and 19 companions would be heading to Rafah from that complex.

Up to 50 injured people are scheduled to be taken abroad on a daily basis so long as the hostage deal lasts, each accompanied by a maximum of three people. This marks the first time since last May that the injured have been able to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing.

On Friday, the World Health Organization reported that an estimated 12,000 to 14,000 people still require medical evacuation from Gaza.
