First Dates' Merlin Griffiths wished well as he gives new cancer update after 'tough' week

First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has again been flooded with well wishes as he shared a fresh update after a 'tough' week in hospital. Last week, the Channel 4 star, could be seen laid up in a hospital bed while dressed in a hospital gown as he gave a positive update on his cancer battle.

He first shared the news of his bowel cancer diagnosis in September 2021 and has since kept his followers updated as he's undergone different surgeries and treatments.

And last week Merlin, who is known to viewers of the hit dating show for serving up drinks and chatting to prospective couples at the restaurant bar on the much-loved show, shared how he was back in recovery after undergoing surgery to have his stoma reversed after nine months.

He said at the time "Ouch. Time for a nap. Surgery done, tomorrow is a new day. Things start happening once I fart properly! I hope it's soon because I'm very hungry.... Feels weird looking down and not seeing a #Stoma. My hand keeps feeling for my bag to see how full it is, and coming up empty!!"

Alongside the same image taken from his hospital Twitter, Merlin typed: "Gosh, it's very odd knowing all my insides are actually inside me again after 9 months of a #stoma. Next step, farting. Then food. #NHS #Cancer #Surgery."

But on Sunday (January 29), Merlinr returned to social media to share some positive news with his followers. "Phew. Getting discharged from hospital today," he told fans. "It's been a tough and fraught week. Recovery will not be fast, but I'll get there. And I've got much better TP at home! Thank you @nhsuhcw, exemplary as always."

Radio star Adele Roberts, who ended 2022 cancer free after her own bowel cancer diagnosis, was among the first to reply, writing: "Congratulations Merlin! Keep smashing it and so happy you’re on the mend. Thank you so much for sharing your recovery." When Merlin replied to ask her if she'd too go through the same surgery, she said: "Hopefully one day! Not for the moment though. I’m not able to get a reversal for the time being… but we’re working on it. The NHS are so amazing. It’s been brilliant to see you thriving."

@TerwitTwoo said: "Wishing you all the best Merlin. You seem such a lovely bloke. Hopefully the recovery continues." @jenna1984leigh commented: "Take care, wishing you a speedy and successful recovery." @DaveL_RNLI_CSO shared: "Best of luck Merlin, hope alls going well and that you’re able to get back into what you do so well."

@SallyFinestone replied: "Bless you Merlin, much better to be at home, and thank you for sharing your journey." @arabesque_gifts posted: "Hope you feel better soon @MerlinFDC4 you’re really brave." @boatmanshv added: "Well done Merlin x Your an inspiration and the care you got sounds amazing too."
