A showcase Comic Con, described as the biggest pop culture event in the UK, is heading to Newcastle this Bank Holiday weekend and bringing along a whole load of famous faces ranging from previous Doctor Whos to the former child star of Matilda.
From May 27-28, a world of TV and film fantasy will be recreated inside Utilita Arena which Comic Con North East has announced as the host venue for its local launch, which it hopes to make its new regional home, with plans for annual follow-up visits to come. Monopoly Events, which is organising the two-day treat, also promises a "phenomenal guest line-up" for its first run, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars James Marsters, who had the role of punk vampire Spike in the hit drama; Charisma Carpenter - who played Cordelia Chase - and Juliet Landau (Drusilla).
At the event, which is set to appeal to comic, TV and film lovers, guests will also get to see the now grown-up - at age 35 - Matilda actress Mara Wilson, who was around eight when she starred in the 1996 film and who also appeared as a child in Mrs Doubtfire and Miracle on 34th Street. Another flashback favourite will be actor and Noah Hathaway who played Atreyu in 1984 film The NeverEnding Story.

Other names on the bill are previous Doctor Whos Colin Baker and Peter Davison; The Inbetweeners' stars Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison as well as Nick Frost from comedy films The Cornetto Trilogy; The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand and Gotham actor Sean Pertwee, with a spokesperson saying: "The first Comic Con North East will be an event to remember."
Film props and sets will be adding to the atmosphere over the two-day run of the event which will open on both days at 9am. Both single-day and weekend tickets are available. Prices for a single-day standard adult entry are £27.50 (£25 plus £2.50 fees); £11 for children and free for under fives.
