First Bus to divert services this week due to multiple road closures - full list

Multiple road closures this week will have a major impact on Bristol's bus services. Works on the carriageways, on buildings, and on walls near roads have forced First Bus to make big changes to their routes in certain areas.

The issues will be across Bristol, from Keynsham to Whitchurch, the city centre, and beyond, meaning it will likely have an impact on many people across the city.

First Bus has provided a list of the services affected and any changes to their routes to ensure passengers can still get the buses they need through any closure periods.

Some of the closures are just for a day, but others last a matter of months, meaning some Bristolians may need to adapt their routes and routines as a result.

Here is the full list from First Bus of the changes affecting their services in Bristol this week.

Rock Road/Ashton Way - Keynsham - Carriageway works

There will be roadworks taking place on Rock Road and at the junction of and including Ashton Was in Keynsham, so services 17, 39 and 178 will not be able to access the area until Friday, April 8. The diversions only apply to services 39 and 178 heading towards Bristol and service 17 that terminates at Keynsham.

The High Street in Keynsham will be open, therefore services 17 (when operating Keynsham loop only), 39 (towards Bath) and 178 (towards Radstock) will be able to operate their normal routes.

Service 349 is unaffected by this closure and will operate as normal, First says.

  • Service 17 - Journeys that terminate and commence at Keynsham town centre (Ashton Way) will now terminate and commence at Station Road (alongside Keynsham Church).
  • Service 17 - Journeys that operate the Keynsham loop via Bilbie Green will operate as normal.
  • Service 39 - Heading towards Bristol only when reaching the roundabout on the A4 by KFC instead of turning left into Bath Road will continue across and go along the Keynsham by-pass to HIcks Gate roundabout then turn left back towards Keynsham and turn around at Keynsham Church to resume normal route.

The bus stop Unity Road on Bath Road and Wellsway, Memorial Park and Ashton Way will not be served. The alternative bus stop will be the Talbot Inn on Bath Road which will be served by the 178 or Keynsham Church heading towards Bristol.

  • Service 178 - It will operate the normal route as far as the bottom of Wellsway then turn right onto Bath Road left onto Keynsham by-pass and follow the same diversion as service 39 above

The Wellsway, Memorial Park and Ashton Way bus stops will not be served and passengers are advised to use either the Talbot Inn bus stop on Bath Road or Keynsham Church bus stop heading towards Bristol.

Horsefair - Building safety works

Due to essential building repairs taking place, the bus stops B11 and B13, located outside of Primark and opposite the old M&S store, will be closed between 8.30pm and 5am on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30

The services affected are: 1, 2, 42, 43, 44 and 45.

First provided the following diversion information for during those hours:

  • Services 1 and 2 will pick up and drop off passengers at stop B15 (outside of Greggs).
  • Services 42, 43, 44 and 45 will drop off and pick up passengers at stop S3 (outside of CEX).

  • Service m1 - Heading towards Hengrove will operate the reverse of the above as far as Whitchurch Lane then go via Court Farm Road and Belland Drive (to drop passengers off) and back onto Whitchurch Lane to resume normal route.

Passengers wishing to travel towards Cribbs Causeway have been advised by First to wait at the bus stop on Whitchurch Lane just after Belland Drive.

Lower Church Road - Weston-super-Mare - carriageway works

Between Tuesday, March 29 and Friday, April 1, Lower Church Road in Weston-super-Mare will be closed for carriageway works to take place.
