Cold conditions could engulf Ireland early next week with Met Eireann forecasting northerly air to dominate from Monday.
The forecaster is predicting a largely settled spell of weather until then albeit with some very wet periods and cool nights.
But Monday looks set to see the first real cold spell of the season as air from north of Ireland moves across the country.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Current indications suggest a spell of rain on Sunday night will introduce a cold northerly airflow on Monday."
Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said on the subject: "A very short blast of cooler air forecast to move down next week. Many will be hoping to see less of the blue on these charts over the coming months with the cost of heating and as we head towards winter it is important to remember that long range forecasts are generally poor."
Long rage charts show Ireland and the UK seeing temperatures dip as low as -4C but it remains to be seen if this could actually happen.
Before that, the country is in for a wet night with heavy rain expected in some parts, a Met Eireann forecaster said: "Becoming wet tonight as rain gradually moves in off the Atlantic, though parts of the southeast may hold off dry till morning. The rain will be heavy and persistent, especially in the west with spot flooding. Mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate to fresh southwesterly winds."
But Thursday will improve with more dry conditions likely, the forecaster added: "After a wet start for many with spot flooding, dry and sunny weather in the west and northwest will extend southeastwards by early to mid-afternoon. Fresher in the clearance with highest afternoon temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees. Southwest winds will veer northwest and moderate as the rain clears."
