Fires in western Japan cause damage and evacuations as battle rages on

Wildfires have struck at least two areas in western Japan, causing damage to a number of homes and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate.

Fires in Okayama and Ehime prefectures have burned 370 hectares, with firefighters still battling the blazes on Monday.

In Iwahari city, large trees on a hillside were engulfed in flames as a helicopter was seen dropping water on the fire. Meanwhile, in Okayama, a fire that began Sunday afternoon has damaged five homes, prompting evacuation orders for several hundred residents in the affected district, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
