Firefighters work through night tackling blaze in Glasgow

FIREFIGHTERS have worked through the night tackling a blaze in a derelict building in Glasgow.

Residents have been urged to keep their windows closed as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances to the scene in St Michael’s Court in the Parkhead area of the city.

The alarm was raised around 9.55pm on Tuesday and there were still two appliances at the scene at 6.30am on Wednesday.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 9.55 to reports of a fire within a derelict building in Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised six appliances to St Michael’s Lane and firefighters are still in attendance.

“There are no reported casualties.”

A statement on the Police Scotland Greater Glasgow’s Twitter/X page read: “Due to the smoke from an ongoing fire in a building to the rear of St Michael’s Lane near Springfield Gdns, Gallowgate, residents in nearby streets are advised to keep their windows closed until further notice.”
