Firefighters were called to an apartment block on Newcastle Quayside this afternoon after a blaze broke out on the sixth-floor.

At 2.40pm Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a fire on the balcony of Hanover Street property. Crews arrived within five minutes and were met with two fires after embers from the balcony blaze had fallen onto a balcony below causing a second smaller fire.

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were also called to the scene but were later stood down as, fortunately, no one is believed to have been injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but it is not believed to have been started deliberately.
