A blaze broke out at a former school as clouds of smoke rose over Liverpool.
Firefighters were called to the scene of former Margaret Beavan School on Almonds Green in West Derby at around 7.45pm on Friday, July 1. By 11pm the building was well alight with dozens of firefighters tackling the blaze.
An update from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service revealed that two fire engines remained at the scene at 8.51am this morning- over 12 hours after the original call out.

Flames reached meters in the air and could be seen over the tops of mature trees surrounding the school. Smoke also completely covered Almonds Green, with eyewitnesses telling The ECHO they could hardly see the end of their own street.
A statement from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service on Saturday morning said: "Firefighting continued overnight. The Service drone was used during the early hours to assist with situational awareness and identifying hot spots.
"Reliefs are currently taking place. The incident has been scaled down to two fire engines. No aerial appliances remain in attendance. The welfare unit and Incident Command Unit have also been released from the incident.
"Prior to being released from the scene, the aerial appliance was used to carry out temperature checks on the roof and exposed timbers. All readings are ambient.
"Remaining crews will continue to monitor temperatures."
