Firefighters tackle car blaze outside Home Bargains in busy retail park

Firefighters tackled a car fire outside a Home Bargains store yesterday.

Crews were called to Moorgate Retail Park, Bury, at 3.45pm. William Ansell, from Cheshire, told the Manchester Evening News said the car belonged to a family of three who had escaped the vehicle.

Mr Ansell said: "The smoke was about 20ft-high. We could see it coming from above houses when we were approaching the retail park.

“It was a family of one man, one woman and a child. They’d exited the vehicle and there didn’t seem to be any indication of any injuries.”

A spokesman for GMFRS said: “At approximately 3.45pm on May 8, firefighters were called to reports of a vehicle fire at Moorgate Retail Park, in Bury. One fire engine from Bury fire station quickly attended the scene.

The fire involved one car. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes.”
