Firefighters tackle blaze at flat above shop in Oldham

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a flat above a shop in Oldham.

Crews were pictured spraying water onto the building, above a barber shop on Market Street in Shaw, this morning (Monday).

Three fire engines attended as the street was shut in both directions.

Firefighters used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control.

The blaze involved one room inside the flat.

There were no reports of anyone being hurt. A spokesman for the fire service said nobody was though to be inside the flat at the time.

He said: "We were called just after 10.30am this morning to Market Street, in Shaw, to a fire in a flat.

"Three crews are in attendance. It is a fire in one room in a first floor flat.

"They used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus.

"It looks like a cordon is in place."

Market Street remains closed off in both directions between Milnrow Road and Farrow Street East.

The 58, 59, 181 and 182 bus services are also on diversion due to the closure.
