Firefighters search flats after fire ripped through business

Emergency services searched flats after a fire broke out in Wallasey Village.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in a shop at around 9.35pm on Wednesday, May 1. Three fire engines attended and extinguished a blaze on the ground floor of a property which has flats above.

Witnesses at the scene said they believe the fire happened at Heat salon, however, this is yet to be confirmed. Firefighters carried out a search and inspection of the adjoining flats and shops, which include, Fleur Ashley tea rooms and the Post Office.

A spokesperson confirmed that no people were harmed in the attached flats at the time. They said: "Fire crews have been called to a fire in a commercial property in Wallasey Village this evening. Crews were alerted at 21:35 and on scene at 21:43 with three fire engines in attendance.

"Crews arrived to find a fire in the ground floor commercial premises of a three storey property with flats above a shop. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and began extinguishing the fire with a hose reel jet to prevent any escalation of the fire.

"The fire was extinguished around 22:16 and a surrounding search and inspection was made of adjoining properties to check for fire spread. No occupants of the attached flats were inside the building at the time of the fire.

"Police are also in attendance managing traffic. The incident has been scaled down to one fire engine and the incident is expected to conclude shortly."
