Firefighters scrambled to flat fire as images show roof badly damaged

A roof was left badly damaged after a fire at a flat in Chorlton.

Three fire engines were scrambled to the scene in Manchester Road at about 12.50pm today (Wednesday, March 2).

The fire involved a flat on the second floor of a terraced property.

No injuries have been reported.

Images taken from the scene show damage to the roof of the building, which is opposite the Sedge Lynn pub.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and remained at the scene in the aftermath.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson said: “At around 12.50pm today (2 March), we received reports of a fire in a flat on the second floor of a terraced property on Manchester Road, Chorlton.

“Three fire engines from Eccles, Gorton and Stretford fire stations attended the scene.

"Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters were detained for approximately two and a half hours.”
