Firefighters descend as purple BMW smashes into side of old Salford hospital

Fire crews and paramedics scrambled after a purple sports car crashed into a building at a busy Salford junction. This was the scene after the BMW Z4 hit the side of the Salford Royal apartments, where the old hospital stood on the corner of Adelphi Street and Chapel Street.

Firefighters raced out to the scene at around 11.30am this morning (May 18) after receiving a call about the collision, which involved no other vehicles. Paramedics also attended and checked over one person who was involved in the crash.

Images from the scene show railings opposite the building had also been knocked onto the ground. Emergency services left the area after around 45 minutes, having made the scene safe.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 11:30am this morning (Wednesday, May 18) we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car at the junction of Chapel Street and Adelphi Street in Salford. Two fire engines from Salford and Agecroft fire stations were quickly at the scene, joined by the Technical Response Unit from Leigh.

"One person was assessed by a fire service trauma technician and received care from colleagues at North West Ambulance Service. GMFRS crews made the area safe and departed after around three quarters of an hour.”
