Firefighters called to tackle house blaze in Radcliffe

Firefighters were called to a street in Radcliffe overnight after a fire broke out at a house. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue say they received the first of many 999 calls to the terrace property on Bolton Road at around 10pm on Wednesday.

Crews from Whitefield, Farnworth, Bolton Central, and Bolton North attended the scene, along with the GMFRS Air Unit. Those living nearby were urged to keep windows and doors shut due to the heavy smoke emitting from the fire.

Photos from the scene showed firefighters working inside the house. The blaze was largely brought under control by midnight, with crews remaining at the scene into the early hours.

A spokesman for GMFRS said in a statement: "Just after 10pm tonight (Wednesday, February 8), we received the first of many 999 calls reporting signs of fire in a domestic property on Bolton Road in Radcliffe.

"Firefighters from Whitefield, Farnworth, Bolton Central, and Bolton North fire stations are at the scene alongside the GMFRS Air Unit.

"The fire is now substantially extinguished, but there is plenty of smoke in the area and we ask people to avoid the area if they can and to keep their doors and windows closed."
