Firefighters called as blaze discovered in major Nottinghamshire shopping centre

Fire services have provided an explanation after they were called to a fire at a shopping centre. Both appliances from Ashfield Fire Station were called to the incident at Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Crews were alerted to the blaze at 10.29am on Wednesday, July 27. Upon arrival, emergency workers discovered a fire in the plant room had already been extinguished.

Fire services assisted to clear the smoke with fans and surveyed the area with thermal imaging cameras.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to reports of a fire at The Idlewells shopping centre in Sutton in Ashfield at 10:29 today (27 July). Upon the arrival of the two appliances from Ashfield, they discovered the fire in the plant room was already out.

"They assisted to clear the smoke with fans and checked the area with thermal imaging cameras."
