Firefighter jobs up for grabs with £32k salary

Mersey Fire and Rescue service are now recruiting new firefighters.

Budding firefighters can now apply as part of an eight-stage application process to protect local communities and carry out the vital work done by the Fire and Rescue service.

They are looking for "people who can empathise with those that they're helping," who can "take responsibility" and be "role models" to those around them. "No two days will be the same" according to the job advert.

Those looking to apply can do so online. After the initial application, there are seven other steps - including an online assessment, functional fitness tests, a half-day at an assessment centre, an interview, and pre-deployment checks - that must be completed successfully before applicants are given the opportunity to become a recruit firefighter.

The job advert said: "You will be supporting the most vulnerable in our communities; helping to make sure they are safe in their homes, places of work and communities; engaging with young people and being their role model to encourage safer and healthier ways of living.

"You will work with other blue light services to help and support those who require immediate attention in a safe and effective way.

"Our firefighters come from all different backgrounds and have one thing in common – a passion to protect, serve and support our communities."

The salary for a recruit firefighter is £24,191 during the 16-week training course, rising to £25,198 after completion of the recruit course. Once training is fully completed the salary rises to £32,244.
