A BB gun was used in a shooting in Salford, police have confirmed.
The target, a man, suffered pellet wounds but has since been discharged from hospital.
The incident in the Concord Place and Douglas Green area of the city, prompted a major response from police after a drive-by shooting was reported. Armed police descended on the location, near the River Irwell, on Sunday evening shortly after 6pm.
A man was taken to hospital from the scene. Dramatic pictures showed a heavy police presence at the scene of the reported incident, with the road taped off as investigations continued late into Sunday night.
A police helicopter was also understood to have been circling the area afterwards.
In a statement released after officers were called to the scene a spokesperson for GMP said they had received reports of a 'shooting' and armed officers attended. They added: "Enquiries are ongoing at the scene to establish whether or not a firearm was discharged."
Several streets were cordoned off after the incident. In a further statement, Greater Manchester Police have since said: "After further investigation we can confirm that a genuine firearm was not used, rather the evidence suggests that the suspect used an imitation firearm."
The force confirmed that a BB gun had been used in the attack.
