Manchester United supporters have been venting their frustration after Ralf Rangnick revealed he was prevented from signing a striker in January.
Rangnick had hoped to bolster his frontline options in January and he even revealed the names of some of the players he had hoped to sign. However, when the United boss told the club that a new attacker would be needed in their push for a top-four finish, the scouting department told him that there was no one available who would fit the team.
Speaking in Friday’s press conference, he said: "I think the board, meanwhile, sees it the same way - they agreed with me - but they also spoke to the scouting department at the time, maybe we should have signed, tried to sign, a player in those 48 hours once we knew Mason [Greenwood] wouldn't be available, once we knew that Anthony Martial had already left on loan.

“Maybe I should have pushed even more in order to get this additional striker. But, as I said, we didn't. Because the answer at the time was 'no, there is no player on the market who would really help us'."
United fans were left furious after Rangnick’s comments, many of whom took to Twitter to air their annoyance. Some called for radical changes in the boardroom.
@GerogeintheCar1: Fire the whole board
@sambrow30048016: Rangnick has lifted the lid on all that’s wrong at Utd from the owners down to the players. It confirms what most fans thought. The club can’t hide from it now, they have to fix it.
@BillyMu95956577: It actually scares me that our board are so incompetent that they think there was no player that would improve us.
Meanwhile, others praised Rangnick for his honesty.
@Intelligenthuh1: Manchester United have desperately needed this level of honesty for some time. I hope the club use his candour to help implement the right structures on and off the pitch that clearly need to be made.
@VaraneEWT: The board won’t like it because he’s exposed them for what they are.
@DeepakGautam_7: Rangnick gave United in six months what the last few managers couldn't give in years.
