A fire at a 'collapsed' barn in Kimberley will be allowed to burn out under supervision, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said. Crews attended a blaze in Gilt Hill on the afternoon of Friday, May 12, where they found 250 tonnes of straw on fire.
Emergency services remained at the scene, but left at around 6.45am, and will now let the hay in the barn burn out. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "We have been there overnight.
"It's a large quantity of hay within a collapsed burn which is being allowed to burn out." While there is no fire presence currently on site, the service said crews will be re-inspecting the fire throughout the morning.

The first inspection is set to take place at 9.30am. The incident hasn't caused any road closures, with the barn located close to Giltbrook Retail Park.
A cause is yet to be identified for the blaze and crews confirmed that there were no injuries. Fire crews were first called to the large barn shortly before 5pm.
Four fire engines and one specialist appliance attended what emergency services described as a "significant" fire. Residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed to keep the smoke out.
Matthew Blant, a farmer who has been renting the land, said: “It’s depressing. The barn is now gone. We have been renting from a woman who is in her late 70s. It upset her.
“We have been farming hay and now it’s all gone. We had £152 worth of hay destroyed in the fire. We are going to have to cart everything to the other farm. And build another shed.”
Susan Lilley, who is the co-owner of the land alongside her daughter believes that it will "take days for the smoke to die down". Speaking on Friday evening, she said: "We had break-ins before - but we never had a fire.”
