Fire service issues statement after major house fire in Arnold

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue have issued a statement after fire broke out in a quiet residential street.

The fire started in a property in Bailey Close, Arnold, at around 5pm on Saturday (February 19).

The road was cordoned off while fire crews from seven different stations tackled the blaze, with work expected to carry on into the night.

The fire service said all persons had been accounted for.

Police and ambulance crews also attended to assist the fire service.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "We got the call just after 5pm today [February 19].

"There was six pumps and an aerial ladder platform used at the scene of the fire, which broke out in a semi-detached property.

"There was two breathing apparatus firefighters who went in with one hose reel jet."

At 8:30pm on Saturday evening the Fire Service confirmed it was scaling the incident down and three pumps will remain at the scene.

A Fire Investigation will take place on Sunday to determine the cause.

The spokesperson added: " The fire in the property has been extinguished. All persons have been accounted for."

Lucy Marton, who lives around the corner from the house involved, said: "I thought someone was just having a barbecue or something at first. Then I saw all the fire crews arrive and I knew it must be pretty serious. Hopefully everyone is OK."

Meanwhile David Wright, who lives a few doors down from the scene of the fire, said: "It broke out at around 5.30pm.

"I could see the smoke and then the fire brigade arrived really quickly. I had to move my car as it was really close. Everyone was just stood out on the street then watching it."
