Fire service confirms cause of blaze that engulfed Nottingham House of Fraser deer sign

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the reason the sign above the city's House of Fraser store randomly set fire. The shop's deer emblem suddenly went up in flames on November 18 last year before falling down on to Mansfield Road.

Crews from West Bridgford, Hucknall, London Road and Carlton fire stations were called to the blaze at around 2.30pm, forcing the temporary closure of Mansfield Road. The logo's scorched outline remains visible near Victoria Centre to this day.

At the time, people working at nearby businesses questioned how the fire started. Katie Blatherwick, of Mega Close, said: "I don't know how it could have happened.

"All of us were just like, 'is the deer really on fire?' It's one of those things that you'll never find out why it was on fire." Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has since discovered the reason behind the fire, stating it was an accidental ignition caused by an electrical fault.
