A property covered in flammable cladding has been listed on a City Hall web portal that helps low-income Londoners find affordable housing, it has been revealed.
It is the second time in the past year that Sadiq Khan’s Homes for Londoners search tool has advertised properties that have been found to be unsafe.
Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Hina Bokhari raised the issue in July last year after three properties were listed on the City Hall housing portal despite containing dangerous cladding.
Following Assembly Member Bokhari’s intervention, Sadiq Khan confirmed that the properties had been removed and that he had instructed City Hall officers to “undertake a review of how properties are listed on the Homes for Londoners portal” so that it does not happen again.
But this week, Ms Bokhari said “once again” a property had been listed on the portal despite it containing “serious fire safety defects”.
She said: “I am incredibly concerned that, once again, it seems at least one property with dangerous cladding and serious fire safety defects has been listed on this site.
“I’m especially concerned and frustrated given the assurances I was provided with by the mayor in August 2021. This situation is simply not good enough and Londoners need assurances that no more dangerous properties will be listed on mayor’s Homes for Londoners portal.”
City Hall has been provided with the details of the property in question so that those affected can be safeguarded.
The Mayor of London has been approached for comment.
