Fire rips through pallet yard as smoke seen across city centre

Footage shows the moment a fire ripped through a pallet yard just off the Dock Road.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to a pallet yard at the junction of Saltney Street and Regent Road near Tobacco Warehouse following reports of a fire. Once two fire engines arrived at the scene they found a part of the pallet yard well alight.

Footage sent to The ECHO shows the fire roaring at the yard as firefighters work to extinguish the blaze. Popping noises can be heard as the fire appears to get escalate.

It took crews around 30 minutes to get the blaze under control and work began to dampen down. An officer from Merseyside Police was also at the scene making sure people passing by didn't get too close to the fire.

People were asked to step back due to suspected asbestos. The North West Ambulance Service were not in attendance and nobody is believed to be injured.

Plumes from the fire could be seen from some of Liverpool's high-rise buildings and from the Wirral.
