Fire drama at Paisley high school as emergency crews tackle ground floor blaze

Fire crews were called to extinguish a blaze which broke out at a school in Paisley.

Emergency services rushed to Gleniffer High School on Tuesday around 3pm to put out the fire, which took hold on the ground floor.

Students and staff were evacuated while the flames were dealt with.

Renfrewshire Council says the damage was not sufficient to prevent the school opening the following day.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, the Paisley Daily Express understands.

A council spokesperson said: “There was a small fire at Gleniffer High School towards the end of the school day on Tuesday.

“Everyone was evacuated and the fire was dealt with. The school opened as normal on Wednesday morning.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.37pm on Tuesday, November 8 to reports of an automatic fire alarm actuating at a high school in Amochrie Road in Paisley.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene and crews extinguished a fire on the ground floor.

“There were no casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
