Firefighters fought a blaze all night after it ripped through a scrapyard.
The fire broke out at yesterday evening on Dennis Road in Widnes, sending approximately 200 tonnes of scrap up in flames. Smoke was seen billowing for miles across Cheshire and Merseyside.
People were asked to avoid the area while the incident was ongoing and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut. Firefighters from across Widnes, Warrington, Runcorn and other parts of Cheshire were sent to fight the fire, along with a water bowser and an aerial ladder platform.

In an update Cheshire Fire and Rescue said fire fighters "worked throughout the night" to temper the blaze. A plan was put in place at 7am this morning to use heavy machinery to allow access to deeper seated areas of the fire.
A number of road closures had been put in place including Dennis Road at the junction with Earle Road, and Tan House Lane at the junction of Moss Bank Road and Fiddlers Ferry Road. Crews have now been scaled back and two fire engines from Birchwood and Widnes remain at the incident.
It was estimated that Cheshire Police will reopen the roads at around 12.30pm today. However, firefighters are still using one main jet in the area.
