FIREFIGHTERS have been battling a fire at a derelict hotel overnight with crews still at the scene on Monday morning.

Around 1am on September 23, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported a “well developed” fire in the area of Airth near Falkirk.

A SFRS spokesperson has since confirmed that the fire has been extinguished.

A statement said: “We were alerted at 1am on Monday September 23 to reports of a fire at the former Airth Castle Hotel in Airth, Falkirk.

“Operations control initially mobilised six appliances and a high reach vehicle to the scene where firefighters found a well-developed fire within a two-storey, derelict building.

“Firefighters have now extinguished the fire, however, one appliance remains on scene as crews dampen down hot spots.

“No casualties were reported.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.40am on Monday, September 23, we were called to a report of a fire at a building at Airth Castle.

“Enquiries will be carried out with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.”
