Firefighters have been working through the afternoon to tackle a house fire in Wythenshawe today (May 3). A number of numbering properties have had to be evacuated.
Ten fire engines from stations across south and east Manchester have been called to the blaze on Woodend Road, Wythenshawe, where they remain in attendance. The fire is said to have started in the loft of a property and has now been extinguished.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were first called around 11.40 this morning and are still in attendance, according to a spokesperson. Greater Manchester Police are also at the scene.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 11.40am on Tuesday, May 3, firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving a house on Woodend Road, in Wythenshawe. Ten fire engines from Wythenshawe, Stockport, Cheadle, Withington, Moss side, Hyde, Stretford, Altrincham and Offerton stations quickly attended the scene along with the Command Support Unit from Hyde.
"The fire involved the loft space of a terraced property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire and make the building safe.
"Neighbouring houses have been evacuated as a precaution. Fire crews have been at the scene for around five and a half hours and remain in attendance at this time.”
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed. GMP have been contacted for more information.
