Fire crews called in to rescue cow trapped in canal

A cow found itself in a bit of a predicament when it fell into a Welsh canal and had to be rescued.

Fire crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service used specialist equipment to get the cow out from its udderly problematic situation on Saturday. A team from Maindee and Ely used large animal rescue equipment to extract the cow from the canal near Newport.

Some of the crew jumped down into the canal with the cow which was up to its neck in deep water. Meanwhile the rest stayed on the banks and guided the animal to a wider area using ropes. Once they'd reached a section of the canal with concrete sides and bank tops and where there was enough room to manoeuvre the cow, it was able to clamber out.

The cow didn't seem very amoosed by the whole experience but thanks to the efforts of the fire and rescue service, it was able to walk away unscathed.
