Fire crews battle overnight against blaze at Scottish Christmas tree farm

FIRE crews were still fighting a blaze at a Scottish Christmas tree farm on Sunday morning, after being called out to the incident on Saturday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called out to the Tayside Forestry farm, outside Dundee, at 7:11pm on Saturday.

Video shared online showed smoke billowing from a massive fire on the site.

Four fire engines were despatched, as well as a special “high-reach appliance”.

The SFRS confirmed that the response had been scaled back to just one appliance by Sunday afternoon, as firefighters monitored the area to prevent reignition.

There were no reports of any casualties.

A spokesperson from the SFRS said previously: "We received an alert at 7.11pm of a fire near to Birkhill. Four fire appliances as well as a high-reach appliance have been dispatched.

"Crews are currently tackling the fire at an industrial unit. There are no reports of any injuries at this stage."

Police Scotland were also called, with officers attending on Saturday.

The force said in a statement at the time: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at a fire at Tayside Forestry near Dundee.

“Templeton Road is currently closed to traffic due to the fire and we would ask people to avoid the area.

“Residents in Muirhead and Birkhill are asked to keep windows and doors closed wherever possible.”
