Fire crews raced to a quiet Ayrshire street late last night to douse a 'ferocious' car blaze.
The ravaged car, which was parked on Springhill Avenue, Crosshouse, was engulfed in flames at 12.46am.
An eyewitness was shocked to hear loud bangs in the wee hours.
The resident said: "I could hear loud bangs and saw a ferocious fire coming from a neighbour's car. The bangs would've been from the tyres exploding.
"It was a large fire, the flames were leaping very high. It was shocking.
"It looks like the fire began in the front of the car.
"If the fuel tank had gone up there would've been extensive damage; they were very lucky."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.46am on Thursday, December 29 to reports of a car on fire at Springhill Avenue, Crosshouse.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
