Fire at nature reserve being treated as 'deliberate', police confirm

A FIRE at a nature reserve in Aberdeen is being treated as deliberate, police have confirmed. 

Emergency services were made aware of the blaze at around 6.32pm on Tuesday within Aberdeen’s Maidencraig Reserve. 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched one appliance to the scene which extinguished the flames. 

Police said they were informed of the incident near the Bressay Way area of the city at around 8.30pm. 

Officers said there were no reported injuries, and the area was made safe by fire crews, adding investigators are treating the incident as wilful.  

Enquiries into the blaze are still ongoing. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.30pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, we were made aware of a fire near the Bressay Brae area of Aberdeen. 

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There were no injuries. 

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.” 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.32pm on Tuesday, March 25 to reports of a fire in the open at Maidencraig Reserve near Aberdeen. 

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire. 

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
