Fire at National Lottery studio sparks evacuation as Thunderball draw delayed

The National Lottery's Euromillions and Thunderball draws have been delayed after a fire sparked a studio evacuation.

The National Lottery tweeted this evening: "Hi! This evening’s Thunderball draw was carried out at our secondary draw site due to a fire at the main studio which resulted in an evacuation.

"As a result, there was no live draw video on YouTube. Please check the National Lottery website for all results later."

Camelot - which runs the National Lottery - told The Mirror the draw was being held at Pinewood Studios - where firefighters tackled a blaze earlier today.

A spokesperson confirmed the Thunderball and Euromillions draw had to be moved to their second studio, which was why it was delayed.

The world-famous Pinewood Studios - which has provided the backdrop for countless Hollywood blockbusters including the 007 movies - went up in flames earlier today during the filming of Snow White.

Fire engines were called to the scene as firemen tackled the blaze, which is said to have broken out at the David Attenborough stage.

Crews and appliances from 10 different fire departments are attending the incident, alongside five officers and a Control Unit from Maidenhead.

A source told The Sun : "A set made up of a lot of wood, and trees etc was currently being built in the Richard Attenborough stage.

"Rumour is a piece of set has caught alight and spread across the rest of the set."

They added that six fire engines had arrived to tackle the fire and that some crew in the studio had been "evacuated without injury apparently".

This comes just four months after another fire broke out at the iconic British studios, which is also the home of James Bond.

Emergency service crews raced to the site in Slough, Berkshire at around 9:10pm as smoke billowed high into the air.

Residents on Fulmer Road have reportedly said they heard a "very big explosion".

A person wrote online: "Pinewood Studios is currently on fire!"

Another tweeted: "Sad to hear about the fire at pinewood studios. Hopefully nobody got hurt."

Similarly another post read: "Hope everyone is safe; just seen a huge fire at Pinewood Studios and at least five fire engines are in attendance."

Camelot, based in Watford, has run the National Lottery since it started in 1994.
