Fire at electricity substation sees residents evacuated from Ayrshire estate

Scores of people have been evacuated from their homes after a fire at an electricity substation in Ayrshire.

The blaze took hold late last night at Knockinlaw Mount in Kilmarnock.

Ayrshire Live understands that around 30 residents were evacuated amid fears over the fire's proximity to a nearby gas supply.

Neighbours were sent to Onthank Primary School and hotels in the area.

Emergency services and officials from East Ayrshire Council remain on the scene.

A council spokesperson said: "Our emergency response teams are currently helping people who have been evacuated from properties around an electricity substation in Knockinlaw Mount, Kilmarnock.

"Emergency services are on the scene and have cordoned off the surrounding area while they deal with the situation.

"All affected residents have been contacted, and they are being looked after by our team.

"We will provide updates as we have them. If you have concerns please call our emergency out of hours hotline 0345 724 0000."

Scottish Power have been contacted for comment.
